Mrs Ekaette Columba attends seventh college combined convocation for graduands

The wife of the chairman of Ikono Local Government Council, Mrs Ekaette Columba, was among the dignitaries who joined Akwa Ibom State Governor, His Excellency, Deacon Udom Emmanuel, today at the 7th convocation ceremony of Akwa Ibom State College Of Education, Afaha Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.
The ceremony which held at the college sports ground, marked another batch of Awards’ conferment on indigent A’Ibom sons and daughters whose meaningful contributions to the development of the institute were noticed by the management and school authority. The school also celebrated graduates who toiled the length and breathe of Afaha Nsit tertiary institution and were declared worthy in character and learning.
The event which was declared open by the Honourable Commissioner for Education who doubles as chairman on the occasion, Mr Nse Essien, featured formal address by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Award of prizes to the best students, Valedictory session, Cultural display, Academic procession, Goodwill messages, Presentation of certificates among others.
Celebrating with a graduand from Ikono, the first lady of Ikono Local Government Area, Mrs Columba encouraged him to ensure success in all his dealings, saying the future is bright for those who stake their lives in God.
The wife of council boss said, she was at the event to honour him going to his dedication, passion and hardwork in service, describing ‘Mike Joe’ as an intelligent young man with great ambition, while pledging to support Alumni of the school.
She said, when a child washes his hands well, he dines and wines with great people, emphasizing that ‘Mike Joe’ never invited her, however stumbled on the notice of school convocation on facebook and decided to attend the event.
Eka Unwana extolled him for writing a lot and posting online, adding that she is very proud of his aptness in Ibibio language and for being a great writer, accepting to be a second mother to him.
According to her, “we will help train Mike to anywhere that pleases him. You are very free to knock at my gate anytime; and consider yourself a member of my family henceforth. The first lady of Ikono added.
Responding, the mother of the graduating student, asked God to reward the wife of Ikono chair for such magnanimity, explaining that the graduand is without a father who lost him many years ago, but was singlehandedly raised to this level by the special grace of Almighty God.
Comrade Michael Joseph who graduated with high grade from Technical Education-(double major), faculty of vocational and Technical Education; a native of Ikono, Ward 10, Ediene Usung ITU-Edem Iyere, also served as Pioneer Faculty president, Vocational and Technical Education and held the position of Secretary-General National Association of Ikono Students.
Thereafter, there was a reception party to honour him at the school compound with friends, well-wishers, colleagues from Alumni and members of National Association of Ikono Students fully in attendance, as Mrs Columba doled out cash, drinks and other refreshments to support him as he ventures into the “labour market”.
