“On behalf of the council and the good people of Ikono, I want to welcome you to the cradle land. I’m excited, because this is why we were primarily elected by the people. We were mandated to work for the people of Ikono, and this visit is a golden moment for us as a people”.
“This programme is coming at a time my Mentor, role model and great leader, His Excellency Deacon Udom Emmanuel, is at the helm of affairs as governor of Akwa Ibom State; and which is the reason we must collectively return him to the Hilltop Mansion in 2019″.
“This LGA has equally benefited in most of similar visits with programmes like; RAAMP, WASH and other life-enhancing projects. And I’m sure, this is one of those programmes given the criteria used in selecting the nine Local Government Areas. This also suggests to us, that Ikono is hungry and angry for more development. We want to assure you of an environment free of insecurity and criminality. Ikono people are noted for self-esteem, pride and orderliness; so we are going to maximally utilize the project. Thank you for coming. You are welcome”. The chairman added.
Speaking earlier, the Akwa Ibom State Project Coordinator-SPC AKSOCU, Mr. Alex InyangUdo thanked Ikono People and their super-performing chairman for the cordiality, stating that the aim of the interactive session was to sensitize the stakeholders on the Federal Government programmes in collaboration with Akwa Ibom State Government.
Mr. Inyang Udo charged all natives of Ikono Local Government Area to cooperate with the government by assisting the representatives to capture the poor, deprived and helpless people via the National Social Register domiciled with Ministry of Economic Development. He further said, that such pick-up implementation would be on household, and not on individuals, as this exercise would strengthen plans in the country to ascertain the number of poor people in all the nine selected Local Government Areas.
In his words, “We are pleased that you welcome us into your Local Government council as chairman. Our major aim is to capture the poor, as the FG is opening a National Social Register for these vulnerable families. Those who are not poor, have no basis to do the exercise. We will further train 18 Local Government staffers that will assist us in this exercise as we proceed”.
The State Coordinator on behalf of his team, also reaffirmed their commitment to kick-start the programme in the next two weeks, assuring the people that the template for such exercise is ready.
