IKONO CELEBRATES PDP VICTORY AT THE POLLS
…. resolves to swim and float with the governor

It was a momentous occasion organized by the movers and shakers of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to celebrate the electorate in Ikono LGA for voting the Umbrella Party, in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The party was also to celebrate the PDP for winning all the three Senatorial and ten Federal House of Representatives seats in the state.
Speaking at the parley which took place at the Local Government Council hall, Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, the Chairman of Ikono Local Government Council, Hon. Itoro Columba, who joined other stakeholders and members of Peoples Democratic Party for the Special town Hall meeting, expressed his happiness on the resounding victory of the Party and thanked all the voters for demonstrating capacity in ensuring the party emerged victorious at the various polling units. The chairman urged the stakeholders to remain focused as the task was only half complete.
He said, “On Saturday, March 9, we have to come out enmass and deliver our super-performing Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel and our very own Hon. Asuquo Nana at the polls.”
Mr Columba expressed delight on the voting strength and willpower exercised by the good people of Ikono, saying that he was proud to be identified with the first-round victory attained so far at the polls.
The chairman thanked the electorate who contributed to the resounding defeat of the All Progressives Congress in Ntippe Ibibio, enthusing that their overwhelming votes ensured the landslide success of Engr. Christopher Ekpenyong, as Senator-elect for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District and Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo, as member-elect for Ikono/Ini Federal House of Representatives.
He called on the people of Ikono to understand the time and season by remaining on the path of truth, charging them to come out enmasse on Saturday, 9th March for another round of elections which he said will guarantee the re-election of His Excellency, Deacon Udom Emmanuel for second term in office.
Mr. Columba said, the time had come when none of Ikono people will ever be afraid of the treacherous killings as preached by opposition to scare voters from exercising their franchise in the State, but to prove what they have been known for, where every son and daughter of Ikono can boast that their land is an undebatable PDP territory from the advent of democracy in 1999 to date.
The award-winning council boss condemned in its entirety the purported securing of 76 hectares of land between Ikono and Ini Local Government Area, proposed for Cattle colony, saying that such would amount to abysmal truncation of human dignity and outright insult on a people known as ‘Ntippe Ibibio’ Nation.
The chairman extoled the God-sent leadership of the state governor, and stated his resolve to mobilize every unit until the state Chief Executive emerges victorious. He further encouraged PDP family to be in peace with all men, even with the opposition party.
“I stand here as chairman of Ikono to thank all the natives of Ikono: from ward one to eleven who came out enmasse to vote for the truth. We had demonstrated our strengths as a truthful people. On that day, we equally had proven, that ‘what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander’.
“I assure you, that the first-round winning at the poll has paved a way for Governor Udom’s victory, despite their high-level rigging during presidential election in the northern part of the country”.
“In the whole of Ikono, all the units were won by the PDP. And that is how it will be repeated on Saturday. So, today we came to appreciate you for not allowing the shame be on your leaders”, the chairman told the mammoth crowd of PDP faithful.
Also speaking, the State PDP Legal Adviser, Obong (Barr.) Goddy Umoh, eulogized the women who showed passion, assessing them to be the harbingers of the highest number of votes cast during the first-round success. He thanked the women for showing sagacity in delivering PDP at the polls.
The erstwhile member of the state executive council condemned the innuendos by the APC to link Akwa Ibom State with the government at the center as outrageous, meaningless and a deceitful tendency taken too far by the opposition All Progressives Party
He said, the center is already attracted to Akwa Ibom State after the launch of fifteen industries and Ibom Airlines by the Governor Udom Emmanuel led administration.
He reeled out other development strides of His Excellency, saying that three new aircrafts were on ground, while four more aircrafts were on the way.
Barrister Umoh pronounced the death of the APC in the State, recapping many dissatisfied areas the people had to go through in the country using poor management of the economy as a case study. The champion of Ikono politics promised the people, that the Governor was out to unleash good policies that will boost the State’s economy at his second coming as governor.
There were also a goodwill message by the PDP chapter chairman Obong Moses Akpan. He expressed confidence in the governor, articulating that Ikono never had it this good. He pledged to swim and float with His Excellency and likewise deliver the PDP candidate, Hon. Asuquo Nana for Ikono State constituency seat.
The thank you meeting also witnessed more good will messages from various political stakeholders, groups and individuals. Among those who spoke were a former Commissioner for Finance in Akwa Ibom State, Sir Sunday U. Akpan, Former Transition Chairman of Ikono and member Akwa Ibom State Technical Board, ObongAnwan Lovinah Umoh-Effah, Former Chairman of Ikono, Chief Edet Umotong, PDP Chieftain in Ikono, Mr. Victor Etefia, Supervisor for Works and Transport in the council, Comrade John Bassey, among others. They all extolled the Governor as God -fearing and sterling leader and promised to vote him back to the Hilltop Mansion.
