….as Itoro Columba presents certificates of participation

In a classic style to bring the much-needed seminar to an end today, enthusiasm of the beneficiaries never waned, as community leaders from all the One Hundred and Forty Nine villages in Ikono, turned out enmasse to receive their Certificates of Participation.

The seminar which held on the theme, “Peace and Economic Development”, began on Thursday, 20th June, spanned through Wednesday, 26th June, 2019 with constellation of Ikono Traditional Rulers Council members, Community Leaders and Forum of Youth Leaders fully in attendance.

The idea which was geared towards imparting knowledge, brought other stakeholders from all walks of life who likewise tapped from a well-dissected topic handled by a seasoned Guest Speakers with indepth knowledge in Conflict Resolution Security, Peace and Economic management.

Presenting the certificates to leaders in the area, Ikono Local Government Chair, Mr Itoro Columba, represented by his Vice Chairman, Otuekong (Dr) Idoteyin Etokobong, applauded leaders who defied their life-challeges and other tight schedule(s) for the event, stating that the seminar would definitely go along way impacting on participants.

The seasoned lecturer advised leaders to remember what they are taught by practising same in their different lines of duties, as this would engender growth and drive personal development.

Earlier, the 2nd keynote lecturer, Barr(Mrs) Mary Effiong PhD, delivered a paper on the topic, “Strengthening Youth Leadership, Organization and Networking”. An accomplished public speaker spoke glaringly on the need to create the bond within leaders and how to effectively harness potentials of leaders for the attainment of organisational goals.

She said, Youth and community leaders must network, interface and interact with one another within their scope, as such would encourage participation. With eloquence, Mrs Effiong defined leadership concept inline with community-based practices and drew conclusion, that every community requires result-driven leaders who will steadily focus on peace in all its ramifications.

Also speaking were Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ikono, DPO Edet Udofia, NSCDC Boss, Superintendent Nino Roberts, other security experts and stakeholders. They said, security is every man’s business which must be taken seriously to prevent collapse of lives and properties in the area.

Winding down in grand style, A-2 Day programme also achieved amongst others: An assessment of dilapidated facilities and proffering of the way forward, keynote presentation, creating of database to capture current Youth Presidents across all villages, roll call of communities, trainings,, taking stock on projects installed by the present Administration, Questions and Answers segment, the distribution and collection of documents from All the 149 villages, sensitization and orientation of leaders to avert future insecurity, ors.

Amidst lean resources, Itoro Columba Administration is fully committed to alleviate the suffering of Ntippe Ibibio natives, as many hand-pump water would be rehabilitated to many wards yearning for more, while extra transformers are in top gear which would be installed to favour Low Density Housing Estate with council helmsman as a channel.

This is an hallmark of effective representation and a true definition of proven leadership, taking into consideration how to be a Local Government Chairman. And the people from the cradle city are sincerely happy.
